Neera Project

Neera: a play, tells a story about real or fictional women and their identities, characters, impact, and journey. Neera combines elements from Iranian and western classical, contemporary, and folk music traditions using both improvised and pre-composed techniques. Neera is inspired by deeper conversations that revealed our parallel experiences due to our identities as artists, Iranians, immigrants, and women. The historical Iranian women such as Forough Farokhzad, and Qamar-ol-Moluk Vaziri who have inspired Neera broke free from pre-defined, dictated gender roles and ideologies of their time, therefore paving the way for future generations of women. Motivated by their example, we are driven to use our art to showcase our musical languages, experiences, and identities.

Neera is planned to be published as an album soon, stay tuned!

Sarvin Hazin and Kimia Hesabi are co-creators of the Neera project.
